The University of San Marino has confirmed its membership in the scientific committee of the national DIMMI competition, giving a voice to migrants.

The University of the Republic of San Marino confirms its presence on the scientific committee of the national competition DIMMI – Diari Multimediali Migranti (Milky Migrant Diaries), which will celebrate its fifth edition in 2020. The initiative aims to collect unpublished autobiographical narratives in written form and beyond, offering the opportunity to submit photographs, drawings, videos, and music. Interested parties can participate by submitting their works by April 30th. The competition is open to people of foreign origin or provenance who live or have lived in Italy or San Marino.

The winning works will be collected in a volume published by Terre di Mezzo and will join the over 350 stories held in the National Diary Archive in Pieve Santo Stefano, in the province of Arezzo, along with all the projects participating in the competition.

In addition to the University of San Marino, which is involved with the Emigration Research Center directed by Patrizia di Luca, the scientific committee includes organizations and institutions such as Arci, Amref Health Africa/ Associazione Fratelli dell'Uomo, the Archive of Migrant Memories, the Municipality of Pontassieve, the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno, Oxfam Italia Intercultura, the 3 October Committee, the Italian Network of Popular Culture, Senegal Solidarity, and the Union of Municipalities of Valdera.

"The DIMMI project," the organizers explain, "was born with the aim of reuniting and preserving a cultural heritage at risk of being lost and countering stereotypes about migration through the testimony of those who have experienced it firsthand." These voices, they continue, "are an extraordinary source of information and knowledge for scholars and future generations. As vivid self-expressions of people of foreign origin and provenance who reach Europe, they contribute significantly to the definition of a shared cultural heritage based on the valorization of diversity."
