Academic insights, live music, installations, and video mapping will be the focus of the University of the Republic of San Marino's Notte Bianca (White Night), presented this morning at the Ministry of Education and Culture in San Marino by the initiative's coordinators, Michele Zannoni and Sebastiano Bastianelli, along with the head of the ministry, Giuseppe Morganti. On Friday, June 3, starting at 3:00 PM, the historic center of San Marino will be decorated to host the initiatives with which the University of San Marino, whose main campuses are located in the upper part of the republic, will offer the public a program of free events alternating moments of learning with moments of entertainment. All of this is consistent with the theme that lends its name to this edition: "Walls, Borders, Limits," three words that the University's various branches have decided to explore independently and from different perspectives, in some cases going beyond geopolitical and social issues. The event kicks off at 3:00 PM in the University's Aula Magna, located in the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, with the opening ceremony led by Rector Corrado Petrocelli, accompanied by a speech by the Secretary of State for Education. The event will then continue with five "knowledge nuggets" through a series of 10-minute talks, called "lectio brevis," in which University faculty will address the main theme through disciplines such as Design and Civil Engineering. In the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, from 4:30 PM onward, visitors will be able to view a series of installations curated by various sections of the University. At 6:30 PM, a roundtable discussion will take place featuring contributions from historian Luciano Canfora, journalist Giulietto Chiesa, and political scientist Angelo Panebianco, moderated by Carlo Romeo, Director General of San Marino RTV.
Among the various initiatives, held in spaces such as Piazza della Libertà, the Cava dei Balestrieri, the Prima Torre, Palazzo Graziani, and the Funivia Terrace, a string concert on the Pianello by the Istituto Musicale Sammarinese, starting at 20:30 PM, and a video mapping on the Palazzo Pubblico at 21:30 PM, are the first acts of an evening that will conclude in the gardens of the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara with a choreographic and artistic display featuring four live performances by Moho Club Discontinuo.
"We asked our colleagues to describe the theme of the Notte Bianca in their own way," explained Michele Zannoni, director of the three-year degree program in Design. "This led to several solutions, from a round table discussion on the international situation to initiatives more closely linked to university research."
Sebastiano Bastianelli, director of the University's Department of Human Sciences, agreed: "Interpreting these concepts is a real challenge," he stated during the press conference. "The result is a visually striking event, which will further enhance the University's reputation outside of Italy." A comment echoed by the Secretary of State for Education: "With this initiative," Morganti concluded, "the University is breaking into society to make us reflect on issues that are crucial to us, and is characterized by the extremely high quality of the content offered."
