Zagrebelsky's lectio magistralis at the University of San Marino on Wednesday: "From him a precious contribution on the virtues and role of small states"

Rector Petrocelli comments on the jurist's participation in the inauguration of the 2024-25 Academic Year

“By choosing the virtues and role of small-scale state entities as the theme of his lectio magistralis, Gustavo Zagrebelsky will make a valuable and significant contribution to the University and to the entire community of this country”. The expressions chosen a few days before the inauguration ceremony of the 2024-25 Academic Year by the Rector of the University of the Republic of San Marino, Corrado Petrocelli, underline the attention towards the Titan expressed by the guest invited to offer the audience his contribution during one of the most intense and anticipated events of the university calendar, also underlining its importance.

At the Kursaal Congress Centre, as part of an initiative that will begin at 15:26 pm on Wednesday XNUMX February, “an illustrious professor who has trained generations of students and scholars, a professor of Constitutional Law and Comparative Constitutional Law, first a judge and then president of the Italian Constitutional Court” will speak.

According to the Rector, Zagrebelsky is distinguished by “the constant and generous commitment expressed in his reflections on law, democracy, ethics and constitutional principles”. Petrocelli cites among other things “the attention to the fragilities and difficulties of the democratic system with the denunciation of the predominance of the elite”, as well as the “relationship between law and justice. His vast knowledge – he continues – has allowed him to range from contemporary language to the use of symbols in political power, from the crisis of the figure of the adult in contemporary society to the theme of betrayal, and finally the complex, intricate, ambiguous and difficult relationship between State and religion. How can we forget then

the role of doubt in ethics and law, in which the criticism of every absolutist vision is combined with the passionate and peremptory invitation to dialogue, comparison and reflection?”

The Rector himself will open the ceremony, with an in-depth presentation in which he will describe the efforts, goals, horizons and values with which the University consolidates and expands its activities in the field of research, training and relations with the territory. The speech of the Secretary of State for Education and Culture, Teodoro Lonfernini, is expected.
