New Ideas, New Businesses, and the 20th edition: the University of San Marino is a partner in a project that began in 2002.

New Ideas New Businesses, organized with the participation of the University of the Republic of San Marino, will celebrate its 20th edition in 2021.

The competition, which rewards the most innovative business ideas and guides them through a training program, will reach the finish line with some new features that will enrich a format that has consolidated over the years.

"After twenty years of significant growth, with increased registrations and an expanded regional footprint," comments Maurizio Focchi, president of the Nuove Idee Nuove Imprese Association, which organizes the competition, "we now face another quantum leap. We felt it appropriate to structure a program that, as a natural complement to the competition, will lead to qualified mentoring and advanced, personalized consulting for the winning projects and those deemed worthy. This activity will be entrusted to local entrepreneurs, the mentors, who will offer their knowledge and experience to accompany the teams on the project's growth and consolidation journey, providing all the necessary tools to ensure the business thrives."

Another new development is the establishment of Nuove Idee Nuove Imprese in the province of Ravenna. The association's scope, aimed at encouraging the creation and growth of new, innovative businesses, has thus expanded to the entire Romagna region, as well as the Republic of San Marino, home to the University of San Marino.

The board of strategic partners is also being expanded, providing knowledge and guidance to the new business ideas competing. Starting in 2021, the Rimini Technopole will also be present, managed by Uni.Rimini Spa, which houses the University of Bologna's industrial research laboratories. The connection with the laboratories will be useful for startups to innovatively grow their products or services.

As usual, the competition will consist of two training phases: the first, open to all eligible projects, will begin by mid-June. The second, aimed at groups selected by the Technical Scientific Committee, will begin in mid-September and will provide the tools needed to consolidate the development of their business idea through to the drafting of the final Business Plan.

A prize pool of €20.000 and a range of benefits are up for grabs. The top three, in addition to free two-year membership to Confindustria Romagna or the National Association of San Marino Industry, will receive €10.000, €6.000, and €3.000 in cash prizes, respectively. San Marino Innovation will award one of the submitted projects a special prize: free membership in the Innovation Regime for the first year (free evaluation and certification).

A prize of €1.000, offered by the Società Unione Mutuo Soccorso di San Marino, will be awarded to the best startup whose members, or at least the group leader, are residents or citizens of San Marino and which is headquartered in the Republic of San Marino.

Studio Skema will offer a two-month program of assistance and support for the concrete development of the entrepreneurial initiative, through services and consultancy.

The "CesenaLab" Award and the "Romagna Tech" Award have also been confirmed, offering a six-month incubation program and support for the initiative's development.

This year, Soroptimist International Club of Rimini will once again support female entrepreneurship with a mentorship award for the best business project proposed by a team composed primarily of women.

The New Ideas New Businesses competition is made possible thanks to the financial, technical-scientific, logistical, and organizational support of its members: Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Rimini, the Chamber of Commerce of Romagna, Forlì-Cesena, and Rimini, SUMS Società Unione Mutuo Soccorso of the Republic of San Marino, Confindustria Romagna, Uni.Rimini SpA – Consortium Company for the University of Rimini, Agency for Economic Development – Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of San Marino, National Association of San Marino Industry, University of the Republic of San Marino, and San Marino Innovation.

The initiative benefits from the financial support of Crédit Agricole, Deloitte & Touche SpA, and Studio Skema, which also provide educational and technical-scientific support.
