Two years of activity have resulted in the collection of over 300 podcasts, generating over 135 listening sessions across every continent, especially in Europe and the Americas. These are some of the numbers for Usmaradio, the radio station of the University of the Republic of San Marino, operational since February 2017 under the direction of artist and professor Roberto Paci Dalò. Dalò, along with a staff that includes station manager Alessandro Renzi, has curated live broadcasts and projects that have taken place in Italy, Austria, Cameroon, Albania, the United Kingdom, Croatia, Switzerland, and Germany.
The latest collaboration is with MAMbo, Bologna's Museum of Modern Art, for a video installation dedicated to dynamic typography called "Typeline." In this context, a conference held on February 28th in Bologna, where curators, academics, and industry professionals involved in the initiative spoke, is among the most recent content available on the website. www.usmaradio.org.
"We're working with students and a network of international collaborators to rediscover a radio that produces, while also looking to the rich history of experimental radio sound laboratories," explains Paci Dalò. "Transmissions of other voices, other sounds, and other noises through electronics, radio art, contemporary art, soundscaping, field radio, network projects, live radio performances, radio drama, audiodocs, sound art, image and sound, interaction design, archiving, and multimedia design. It's a radio that broadcasts what's usually unheard elsewhere, streamed with weekly broadcasts. Every Sunday, for example, our content is broadcast on Ö1 from the Funkhaus in Vienna thanks to our collaboration with ORF Austrian National Radio."
