Over forty high school students at the University of San Marino competition on ideas for a more sustainable tomorrow

The initiative was managed by the CdL in Civil Engineering and Construction and Land Management

Electric buses that follow optimized routes, an app to consult useful information from your mobile phone, heated stops in the cold months equipped with screens indicating waiting times and chargers for electronic devices powered by photovoltaic panels: these are some of the elements foreseen from the public transport system described in the project that won the second edition of the ideas competition "Improve your territory of the future - how the circular economy, eco-sustainability, land management and digitalisation can improve your country", organized by the University of the Republic of San Marino and aimed at high school students.

Called "Sanmoving", the plan is dedicated to the San Marino territory and was signed by the second class of the Liceo Scientifico del Titano, supported by some teachers: among the areas taken into consideration are the age groups that could benefit from the new system and the positive impacts for the environment and the community.

Among the twelve projects presented, for a total of 47 students involved, second place recognized the attention dedicated by the fifth class "Constructions, environment and territory" of the Tonino Guerra Institute of Novafeltria to the problem of disposing of electric car batteries, reused for domestic photovoltaic storage, in homes, or in large public structures into which energy from renewable sources, such as wind or solar systems, can be channeled, to then recharge vehicles powered by non-traditional engines.

The third prize, within the competition organized by the degree course in Civil Engineering of the University of San Marino together with the three-year program in Construction and Territory Management, went to a student from the "Marie Curie" Scientific High School of Savignano sul Rubicone, who proposed a system to 'clean' the water used in the shower, sink and bidet, reusing it for flushing the toilet. In Italy, according to reported estimates, 20% of drinking water consumption goes to sanitary facilities.

Finally, honorable mention for two projects: one for the creation of seven cycle paths in the republic, managed by the second class of the Liceo Linguistico del Titano, and the other, signed by two members of the Tonino Guerra Institute of Novafeltria, for the introduction of green areas set up with a special fund designed to filter and allow rainwater to flow, in the event of significant phenomena, towards collection tanks, so as not to clog the sewage systems and avoid inconveniences such as flooded roads and the like .

The award ceremony for the expected prizes took place this morning, Monday 4 December, in the university headquarters of the World Trade Center in Dogana: “The competition – explains Belen Giacomone, teacher and coordinator of the initiative – highlighted the talent and participants' commitment to proposing sustainable solutions to improve our territory. These are ideas that are not limited

to promote environmental awareness, but they demonstrate the great degree of sensitivity that mobilizes young people towards these important challenges of change".

The winners were chosen by a jury made up of eight figures including academics, representatives of the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture, of the Titano High Schools, of the Autonomous State Company for Public Works and of the Territorial Planning Office and for Construction.
