San Marino's archaeological, historical, artistic and landscape heritage

Training course

San Marino's archaeological, historical, artistic and landscape heritage – 2016-2017 academic year

Course description and learning objectives

The Department of Human Sciences at the University of the Republic of San Marino intends to offer teachers in San Marino schools of all levels a training course dedicated to San Marino's archaeological, historical, artistic, and landscape heritage. The course consists of 9 modules, developed with the help of experts, officials, and cultural professionals working at San Marino's cultural institutions and organizations.

San Marino's museums have long offered readings and guided tours specifically designed for schools. They are therefore presented not as simple "containers to be exploited," but as "other educational environments" with which schools can interact and collaborate. This training program aims to foster this encounter and, at the same time, provide teachers with tools to facilitate the process of mediation between cultural heritage and students.

Museum education has the primary objective of helping visitors understand and appreciate the museum's exhibits (and the museum as an institution and container) and of building knowledge based on cultural experiences and the enjoyment of cultural heritage. It also aims to foster action to protect and enhance a specific territory, the very territory the museum's exhibits speak to us about. From this perspective, heritage education means helping to define a citizen education program aimed at raising awareness and sharing places, and at "shaping society."
