A study on new intervention techniques on bridges damaged by earthquakes, carried out thanks to six months of research at the University of Fuzhou, in China, today earned Daniel Martino from San Marino a master's degree in Civil Engineering at the University of the Republic of San Marino. In the thesis, entitled "Pre-hole seismic isolation for pile-soil interaction on integral bridges", an alternative technology is explored to intervene on bridges that have suffered post-earthquake consequences. This in order, among other things, to reduce costs compared to the classic systems put in place so far.
The results obtained by Martino are the result of a process divided into two phases: the first, carried out within a team that included Chinese students, focused on the production of some scale models in the laboratories of the University of Fuzhou. Subsequently, on the basis of the experimental results obtained, Martino conducted a series of analyzes using appropriate calculation codes for the validation of the simulated models.
The thesis, which saw the director of the degree course in Civil Engineering Angelo Marcello Tarantino in the role of supervisor, was possible thanks to the partnership that currently binds the University of Fuzhou, and in particular the Engineering department directed by Bruno Briseghella , at the University of San Marino. At the heart of the joint study activities are various research topics on the seismic vulnerability of civil structures and infrastructures. In addition to Martino, there are six students who have graduated today in Civil Engineering at the University of San Marino.
