On Wednesday, September 12, a delegation from the University of the Republic of San Marino and institutional representatives presented to Their Excellencies the Captains Regent, Stefano Palmieri and Matteo Ciacci, the book "Words Beyond Borders." The book contains ten autobiographies selected during the 2017 national competition Diari Multimediali Migranti (DiMMi), in which the University of San Marino's Emigration Research Center participated by serving on the project's scientific committee.
"The texts describe contemporary migrations from the perspective of those who endure them, with ample space dedicated to the arduous journeys, offering testimonies that allow for a deeper understanding of the reasons behind the choice to emigrate, which forces people to leave behind their loved ones and is almost always made out of necessity or obligation," explains Patrizia di Luca, director of the University Research Center. "The publication of this book," she continues, "is a demonstration of the Titan's active commitment to strengthening intercultural dialogue, an aspect that is assuming a fundamental role in European culture and appears to be one of the most important tools for continuing to guarantee democratic and participatory coexistence, in which the rights of every individual are respected." The volume, published by Terre di Mezzo, was edited by Di Luca together with Alessandro Triulzi and Natalia Cangi, director of the Pieve Santo Stefano Diary Archive, who coordinated a competition that involved 99 participants and a rich network of institutions and associations. In addition to the Heads of State, Di Luca and Cangi, the audience was also attended by the Secretary of State for Education and Culture, Marco Podeschi, the deputy official of the Italian Ambassador to San Marino, Claudia Amerini, the Rector of the University, Corrado Petrocelli, and the Director General of the University, Isabella Bizzocchi.
