A series of projects designed to revitalize neglected community spaces will be the focus of the next edition of the San Marino Design Workshop, an annual event in which the University of the Republic of San Marino's Design degree program will involve one hundred students, five designers, and seven tutors to explore and develop services, products, furnishings, visual communication projects, and interactive experiments in the field of Neighborhood Design.
The goal of the initiative, scheduled for September 21st to 26th at the university campus of the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, in the historic center of Mount Titano, is to develop solutions for organizing, managing, and connecting common spaces, meeting places, educational spaces, family spaces, and more, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the action plan endorsed by the 193 UN member countries for people, the planet, and prosperity. In this regard, gender equality, education, and health will be prioritized.
"We will ask participants to reconsider forgotten and still considered residual collective spaces, to rethink shared spaces both inside and outside, from small meeting rooms or commercial spaces in condominiums to the entrance hall of the building, from the landing to the balconies and railings, from the stairwell to the spaces between buildings, to the sidewalk of the building, from the paved portico to the roof or the garden courtyard," explain Riccardo Varini and Massimo Brignoni, heads of the teaching and organizational structure.
San Marino Design Workshop 2020, continuing an annual program begun in 2006, will be held in collaboration with the University of Bologna's Industrial Product Design degree program and in partnership with AERES Venezia per l'AltraEconomia and the Italian Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AICCRE). The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the San Marino National Commission for UNESCO.
The initiative, which includes four workshops, is part of "Visualizing Agenda 2030 in the Cities – Venice," recently promoted as the Local4action Hub, scheduled for November 26 and 27 in Venice with the participation of representatives of local authorities and active citizens.
