A series of in-depth analyzes on the recent affair known as the Biot case, which involves accusations of espionage in the context of the transfer of some secret Italian documents to Russian subjects, will characterize the next conference scheduled within the framework of the master's degree in International Security Studies of the University of the Republic of San Marino.
The appointment is scheduled for tomorrow, May 26, from 9 to 14 in telematic mode on the Microsoft Teams platform. Expected speeches by academics and experts such as Roberto Mugavero, director of the master's degree and of the University Security Training Center of the San Marino University, Mario Caligiuri, president of the Italian Intelligence Society, Alessandro Politi, director of the NATO Defense College Foundation research center, and Alberto Felice De Toni, president of the Organizing Committee of the Higher School with Special Order of Defense, dedicated to high qualification and research in the field of defense and security sciences.
Their reports, together with those of other exponents from various universities of the peninsula, will concern some areas related to intelligence, therefore activities such as the collection and dissemination of relevant information for the protection of the national security of a given reality. In-depth studies on the Biot case are also planned, curated by three representatives of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa including the Vice Rector Andrea De Guttry. The conference, entitled "Intelligence in the XNUMXst century: the Biot case and other stories", will be opened by the Rector of the University of San Marino, Corrado Petrocelli, and Luigi Foffani, president of the degree course in Strategic Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
“The initiative – explains Mugavero – aims to be a moment of discussion, also through analyzes and insights, on the evolution of threat scenarios, on the current situation and on the new challenges in matters of intelligence and national security. The event, which it is hoped will serve as a bridge between the academic and institutional worlds, will also see a focus on the recent story of military espionage that occurred in Italy, analyzed from a legal and political point of view. This also in order to identify the lessons learned and share food for thought for the future”.
