The potential consequences of phenomena such as bad weather and earthquakes on the walkway that characterizes the customs border along the expressway were the focus of the graduation session which yesterday, Monday 19 October, involved ten students from the University of the Republic of San Marino : four enrolled in the Civil Engineering program and six in the Construction and Land Management training course, dedicated to surveyors. During the appointment, an analysis on the stability of the gullies areas of the Titano and a study of the seismic vulnerability of a school building in Macerata were also presented.
Specifically, the analyzes carried out by Luca Cambria on the Dogana pedestrian walkway involved a series of dynamic tests through which the 'ways of vibrating' of the structure were identified, monitoring behaviors such as bending and twisting: "This thesis - explains the director of the degree course, Angelo Marcello Tarantino – interested one of the modern symbols of San Marino at an engineering level and allowed, among other things, to identify parameters that will allow the creation of a database useful for monitoring the structural health of the work”.
The project on the reclamation works of the Titano gully instead provided useful elements for understanding which areas are stable and which instead show signs of degradation: "The study carried out by Giulia Sammarini - comments the academic - concerned in particular the Fosso dei Laghi and the Fosso della Riva. Thanks to a large parametric study it was possible to identify possible design solutions for the stabilization of the areas involved. This work is part of a fruitful collaboration between our training program, which focuses in particular on anti-seismic engineering and environmental sustainability, and the Autonomous State Company for Public Works (AASLP), with the involvement of the Protection Civil".
Also presented was a study of seismic vulnerability involving a school building in Macerata, curated by Federico Maiani. Within the analysis, some proposals to intervene on the structure in the light of the results obtained: "From the 40th Legambiente report on Italian schools it can be seen that 1941% of the buildings were built between 1974 and XNUMX in the absence of seismic standards ”, recalls Tarantino. “The analyzed building is therefore representative of a large part of the existing heritage. For the seismic adaptation, the isolation at the base was evaluated, which allows the protection of the superstructure and non-structural elements".
Enrollments for the three-year degree courses in Civil Engineering are open until 31 October, those for the master's degree course close on 30 December.
