Nine scholarships of one thousand euros per month for candidates demonstrating the best research aptitude, 15 total places available, and three years of work alongside leading experts in the field. This is the next cycle of the PhD program in Historical Studies at the University of the Republic of San Marino, which will run from June 2017 to May 2020, marking the thirteenth edition of an initiative that has trained young scholars since 1989.
The proposed program encourages "direct contact between students and faculty from leading European institutions, creating opportunities for academic exchanges that can then bear fruit as they pursue their studies," explains the doctoral program's scientific director, Paulo Butti de Lima, less than a week before the application deadline. "Our Advanced School of Historical Studies," he continues, "has paved the way for the careers of many scholars and professors from a wide variety of backgrounds, who have gone on to pursue their careers throughout Europe and beyond, from the Americas to Australia. Among the faculty are some of the most renowned historians in every field, from social, political, and economic studies to literature and art history, philology, and philosophy."
The doctorate program is held within the Department of History, Culture, and History of San Marino, directed by Luciano Canfora, an internationally renowned classical philologist and historian. Applicants are eligible to participate if they have a master's degree in historical disciplines, are under 32 years of age, and are proficient in Italian, French, and English. Applications must be submitted by Friday, January 13th. The call for applications is available on the University website, www.unirsm.sm, on the doctorate program page, accessible from the "course offerings" section. For information: ssss@unirsm.sm.
