A competition by the University of San Marino aimed at high school students: the best 'green' projects awarded

Renewable energy, drought and the circular economy are the topics addressed in the initiative of the degree course in Civil Engineering

"Sunflowers", a project for photovoltaic panels capable of rotating and better intercepting the sun's rays, won the ideas competition "Design your territory for the future", organized by the University of the Republic of San Marino and addressed to high school students of Italian and Titano institutes during the 2021-22 school year.

Designed by Martina Ricci of the Fulcieri Paulucci scientific high school in Calboli, Forlì, the device looks like a 'giant sunflower' made with recycled materials: in addition to producing energy, it is proposed as a lamppost for night lighting, ideal for the streets of city ​​and beyond.

Ricci was awarded this morning at the World Trade Center university headquarters in Dogana during a ceremony which also involved the authors of the projects classified in second and third place. The initiative will be curated by degree courses in Civil Engineering and Construction and Territorial Management, in which most of the participants are currently enrolled.

Filippo Venerucci of the Alessandro Serpieri scientific high school in Rimini has proposed a system for collecting rainwater to be used to irrigate gardens and vegetable gardens, feeding washing machines and toilets, with an evolution in the event of the installation of a purification system.

A group made up of twelve students from the Tonino Guerra state institute in Novafeltria has instead developed a project for the cultivation of hemp for the production of protective devices such as bioplastic helmets and gloves, to be used in the construction sector. The authors: Matteo Pavani, Andrea Pavani, Leyla Belaroussi, Chiara Bernardini, Matteo Cioffi, Giulio Draghi, Ginevra Giorgini, Tommaso Mordenti, Ghenild Mustafa, Samuele Sabba, Gianmarco Salucci and Alan Semprini.

"The competition was created to motivate, raise awareness and involve young people in the challenges of the future, especially now that the effects of global warming are becoming more evident and the problems more urgent", explains the teacher Belen Giacomone. “The jury was impressed by both the quality of the ideas and the degree of detail. We have welcomed projects linked to the territory and capable of proposing solutions on current dynamics such as renewable energy, drought and the circular economy. This encourages us in view of the next edition”.

In addition to the University of San Marino, representatives of the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture, the Secretariat of State for the Territory, the Titano Higher Secondary School, the Autonomous State Company for Public Works and the Territorial Planning Office.
