The asphalt surface adjacent to the new green space created between parking lots 6 and 7, in the historic center of San Marino, uses products developed by the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of the Republic of San Marino in collaboration with the company Pesaresi Costruzioni of Rimini, offering an effect that highlights the hues of the materials used and recalls the typical color of San Marino rock. Its chemical composition is more advanced than traditional materials and has been used in the past to build three tunnels in the province of Bolzano, with the contribution of the University of San Marino.
The project, located in the former tennis court area, was carried out by two teams of workers coordinated by the Autonomous State Company for Public Works (AASLP). On Monday, July 4, they laid 90 tons of paving material over a surface area of approximately 1.000 square meters, 100 of which were hand-laid. The work involved over 15 people, including workers and technicians. The use of the selected technology requires detailed production procedures with extensive preparation times and rigorous temperature control, as well as particular care during the laying and compaction phases. This week, the Master's Degree Program in Civil Engineering will evaluate the results of quality control performance tests on the material sampled from each production batch.
