University of San Marino and AASLP together for increasingly efficient road maintenance

Operate on the road maintenance of the Titano following a targeted planning, guaranteeing a high quality of the works and with an eye to the environment. These, in summary, are the objectives of the memorandum of understanding which from today unites the Autonomous State Authority for Public Works (AASLP) and the University of the Republic of San Marino. Signed at the University headquarters by the Rector, Corrado Petrocelli, and by the President of the Company, Federico Bartoletti, the document puts the needs of use in the foreground, first of all safety, and those of an economic nature and environmental protection.

Thus was born a road maintenance planning project which, after identifying a scale of economic and technical priorities, aims to offer an ever more efficient functioning of the road network. A purpose for which the University, with the involvement of its Degree Courses in Civil Engineering, will make available a research activity capable of introducing elements of technical and methodological innovation in the field of road planning, design and maintenance.

The protocol also aims to implement a multi-year maintenance plan and adopt continuous road monitoring techniques, aiming at the rationalization of resources and the gradual introduction, as an alternative to traditional maintenance techniques, of eco-sustainable intervention methods which will involve, among the other things, the recycling of demolition materials from the old road pavements.

The project envisages the promotion of the use of the most up-to-date technologies by companies in the sector, with respect to which the University and the Company will organize seminars dedicated to producers and builders.

They will also be supported by the Territorial Information System (SIT) of the Public Administration, thanks to which a cartographic database will be created which will allow the implementation of the road maintenance service. In this way, all the offices involved will be able to know which entities are operating on the road network and where, thus improving their coordination.

Lastly, students of the Civil Engineering Degree Courses will be able to work alongside the Company's technicians thanks to a series of specifically activated internships.
