Democratic Citizenship Theater Festival

The Theater Festival of Democratic Citizenship was born in 2007 from a project of the Department of Education of the University of San Marino, in collaboration with the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Bologna and with the Social and Cultural Activities Office of the Republic of San Marine.

Direct filiation of the Summer School, it was created to allow an all-round encounter between the theater and people, of all ages and origins, citizens and citizens, who in comparison with the theater can find new and further stimuli for their lives, work and that sense of participation in the community increasingly forgotten in the name of private interest.

The Festival is grafted onto the territory, thus constituting a cultural event for the whole community, an opportunity for everyone to enrich themselves and to train themselves of great importance. The review constitutes an important moment of cultural aggregation precisely around the theme of the exercise of active citizenship, an issue considered a priority by the main international institutional bodies such as the Council of Europe and the European Union itself. The festival is characterized as an event of great ethical and educational value capable of arousing a concrete reflection on what it means today, in the time marked by the profound transformations induced by globalization, to be citizens not only of one's own country but of the planet earth.
