The Department of Economics and Technology fosters the research in the technological, economic and social fields, focusing on the difficulty in establishing a connection among the different areas of culture and with a view to exploring the real roots of development in society. 
The Department carries out applied research on innovation in technology and management and on its impact on economy and society. In particular, the Department intends to develop research on the relationship between technology and service enterprises and on the transfer of technology as a way to advance the economic and social development of the Republic of San Marino. 
The Department organizes the following didactic activities: 
Doctorate in Economic and Management Engineering
This Doctorate course, officially recognized by the Italian Government with the issuing of it’s decree in the Official Gazette n. 87 on April 14th 2003, is organized in three year cycles with seminars held on a monthly basis. The programme is divided in three thematic areas: mathematical methods for the analysis of innovation in enterprises and systems of enterprises; economic aspects of industrial innovation; operation management of technology and production.

Distance University Degree in Economy and Administration of Enterprises and in Economy and Management of Tourist Services (Nettuno Consortium)
The University of the Republic of San Marino, the University of Trieste, within the Nettuno Consortium, provide Distance University Degrees in:
- ECONOMY AND ADMINISTRATION OF ENTERPRISES, mainly directed towards entering enterprises, professional activities and generally all activities concerning financial brokers;
- ECONOMY AND MANAGEMENT OF TOURIST SERVICES, intended for preparing medium and high qualified professionals able to manage and project initiatives in the tourist sphere, with no relation to the private or public nature of the enterprise or bureau entered. 

The distance model of education adopted gives access to those who are not able to regularly attend the university structures, in accordance with their needs and rhythms, to courses with the same formation characteristics, regulations and legal value of those organized in universities with traditional didactic models.
The University Degrees are on a three year base and are specially intended for working students and students that live far away from university premises.
Teaching is held in accordance to a new pedagogical model based on a “mixed” fruition model: traditional methods ( direct interaction with teachers and tutors: lessons, exercises, evaluations and tests) integrated with distant methods (video lessons through satellite television channels, videocassettes or internet, resources and exercises via internet, internet distance tutoring, telephone, fax).
Who studies using the Nettuno didactic method reaches double results: not only highly specialized and qualified formation in the field of interest, but contemporarily the acquisition of languages and skills necessary for using new technologies as learning tools and as an everyday working tools; abilities now necessary to work successfully in an ever developing social-economical environment. 

International Master Course in Strategy and Planning of Sport Organizations and Events
The Master Course in Management of Sports Organizations after the VIth edition has been reproposed, during the 2003-2004 A.Y., with considerable and decisive renewals, beginning from the title of the Course itself.
The University of San Marino, has in fact activated, jointly with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Bologna – Rimini branch, a first level Master Course called “International Master Course in Strategy and Planning of Sport Organizations and Events”.
The Master Course was conceived to conform the formation of sport organization leaders to the growing complexity of sport systems on national and international level. The intersection of knowledge and skills - organizational, normative, operational and cultural – characteristic of the course, induce participants into thinking of the sport system, its analysis and organization, in a strategic and integrated way.
The Master Course is on an annual base and is composed of didactic and formative activities for a total of 68 credits with mandatory frequency and is articulated in a total of 1.600 hours.
To complete classroom preparation, students effect a 300 hour training, in enterprises, institutions, organizations, leagues and sport societies operating in Italy and abroad. 
During their training, students are requested to formulate and carry out a Project Work witch will become their Master thesis. 
The obligatory subjects are:
Economy of Sports, Sociology of Sport Organizations, Business Organization, Sport Rights, Principals of Marketing, Sport Marketing, Theory and Technique of Sport Communication, Legislation, Organization and Management of Sport Installations, Management and Programming of Sport Events, Organization and Management of Tourist and Sport Structures.

Master Course in Management of Integrated Systems (Quality, Security and Environment)
The Master Course has been projected to offer the abilities and the experience necessary to deepen and improve acquired knowledge in the working field and during university studies, supplemented by interdisciplinary inputs able to build the professionalism requested by modern enterprises. The course is organized together with two formation and certifying agencies, ECS-DNV a San Marino Certification Agency witch represents a Norwegian company Det Norke Veritas *DNV* world leader in the certification field, and the QSA formation and certification agency, in Genova.
The Master Course is reserved for brilliant youngsters with elevated potentials, with a degree or with a significant working experience, who intend assuming responsibility roles in Quality Security and Environment Systems, or for those who intend to become counsellors or valuators. 
The frequency of the Master Course assures a full control over the abilities and methodologies necessary for an efficient management of integrated systems (quality, security, environment) in a modern enterprise, either industrial or of services. 
The program also includes the frequency of the specific formation module and exam to obtain the “QMS Auditor/Lead Auditor ISO 9000.2000” qualification and the “Environment Systems Valuator” qualification registered by DNV Knowledge Institute at CEPAS.

University Degree in Industrial Design
The Department of Economics and Technology is planning a numerus clausus, triennial University degree in industrial design which should begin in the 2005-2006 academic year.
Industrial Design is the practice that superintends planning and valuing industrial products, by integrating designing disciplines with those of technology and management.
